FIAT INDUSTRIAL •
350
million Euros destined for research and development activities:
this is the loan stipulated in the contract signed by the European
Investment Bank and Fiat Industrial in relation to some of the
group’s highly innovative projects. These will be carried out at five Fiat Industrial
R&D sites in Europe, situated in Italy (83% of the credit line), Germany (8%) and
Switzerland (9%). The main objective is to obtain improvements in the energy
efficiency of group products, and reductions in their carbon dioxide emissions.
The projects will be focused in particular on the study and development of
new solutions in the field of engine technology, in relation to new regulations
on emissions and to the use of alternative fuels for industrial, commercial
and agricultural vehicles. Another branch of research will focus on vehicles’
architecture and aerodynamics, aiming to reduce weight and increase safety.
