In order to enhance harvesting productivity and to satisfy the demand for ever larger headers to minimise in-field passes, an all-new 40 foot aluminium Varifeed™ header will be fully available from 2013 onwards for the entire CR range. The new range of light-weight Varifeed™ headers, available in 12 and 14 metres, features a highly innovative extruded aluminium frame design to support the header. Wider frames, which eliminate the weight and bulk of traditional frames, are rigid, which prevents sagging associated with normal wider headers; the latter contributing to overall header stress and the reliability-impacting bending of drivelines. Moreover, the light-weight construction reduces the machines’ overall weight for reduced soil compaction that will enhance yields season after season. The hollow frame design not only reduces weight but absorbs vibrations to provide smoother operation for enhanced operator comfort. The 14 metres Varifeed™ header features another harvesting innovation: the double split reel. Conventional reels are split in the middle of the header, consequently visibility is restricted due to the reel supports. In contrast, New Holland's innovation features a 2.76 m centre reel which is combined with side reels that vary in length depending on the width of the header. This enables an unobstructed view of the centre of the header for increased harvesting precision.
Ease of operation is further improved as the steel reel tine pitch can be adjusted via an electromotor, allowing easy changes for varying crop conditions. The reel drive is also integrated into the centre tube, eliminating potential crop snagging, moreover, it has zero drive chains and is maintenance free.
The industry-leading, full 80 cm of fore/aft cutterbar movement ensures complete crop collection, and integrated side knives can be stored when not in use on the header itself, speeding up changes between different crops.
