Royal Troon Golf Club hosted the Open Championship for the first time back in 1923. Since then, it has become a true test of the best professional and amateur golfers in the world, and is now a regular on the Open circuit and for other competitions.
For the last 18 years, a Ford 1920 with a loader has been looking after the course and, although it has provided outstanding service throughout those years, Royal Troon recently decided it was time to upgrade to a sophisticated new machine.
John Condron, from Lanark-based Bryson Tractors Ltd, was involved in the sales process every step of the way. After a relatively short negotiation, a new Boomer 3050 was delivered in mid January. Its main tasks will include deep-tine aeration and trailer pulling.
John said: “Royal Troon has always been very happy with the service that they received, so once they decided to replace the 1920 tractor, it was a relatively simple process for us to conclude the deal. It’s a great pleasure to see a New Holland tractor looking after one of the most famous golf courses in the world. Keep an eye out for future developments with the kit at Royal Troon!”
However Royal Troon isn’t the only world-class golf club using New Holland machines to maintain their pristine grounds.
Cheshire dealer Campey Turf Care Systems recently delivered a new T4020 to the prestigious Royal Birkdale Golf Club, eight-time hosts of the Open. The delivery of the prized new tractor just after Christmas is part of Royal Birkdale’s five-year rolling plan to provide its groundkeepers with the very best machines.
Campey Turf Care Systems’ Product Specialist Ian Campbell, who brokered the deal with Royal Birkdale, said: “We have previously sold Royal Birkdale a TC45 with a loader; however I think they were particularly impressed with the size of the cab on the T4020. That, combined with its user-friendly design, ultimately helped them to decide on another New Holland machine.
“We are getting very good sales of the T4020, it is a very popular machine – Royal Birkdale is just the latest of many customers recognising the superiority of its performance capabilities and operator comfort.”
