NEW HOLLAND PHV 4S PLOUGH
GG Philpot have been farming in the Broadstairs area, Kent for many generations. They are currently farming 450 acres of light chalky soil, the main crop grown on the farm is cauliflower, where they grow up to 140 varieties. They also grow 90 acres of early and main crop potatoes which are sold in their farm shop.
Geoff describes their farm shop as a “one stop shop” selling fruit and vegetables grown on the farm. Also, on the farm Geoff’s wife runs a riding school for 60 horses.
Geoff and his family have been loyal Ford and New Holland customers all their life with the first tractor purchased on the farm was a Fordson Dexter. “We have good
backup and service from New Holland and Haynes Agricultural Ltd throughout the years, we have tried other brands, but we have stuck with the New Holland
brand as we like their products” said Geoff.
“We are very fortunate with our local dealer, they have a good sales representative and the best technicians” explained Geoff. Geoff purchased his New Holland
PHV 4S Plough in December 2018 from their local New Holland dealer Haynes Agricultural Ltd. “It is a very good plough. I am pleased I invested in one, I wouldn’t
change anything” Geoff purchased a four plus one plough. “This Autumn has been tricky for us, but we were able to use the four-furrow plough as it was easier
to get along”.
Geoff explains how important it is to look after his soil “I am very conscious of looking after the soil as we need to keep them healthy”. All the ground on the farm is
ploughed with some double cropping the ground is ploughed twice. “Quality over quantity” is important to Geoff when growing vegetables for market. The plough adds
many benefits to the farm for Geoff which include a level stale seedbed ready for planting by burying the trash and controlling weeds to help produce a following healthy
crop. Geoff describes the performance of the plough as “brilliant” carrying out a “lovely job and is done to a very high standard”. “The plough buries the trash well
leaving a lovely level seedbed” stated Geoff.
Geoff’s overall thoughts of the machine is that “It is a well built, simple plough, hassle free. There are no unnecessary adjustments, it is very user friendly”.
Geoff is also pleased with the wearing metal “the external life of wearing parts is very good”.
