Darts player Scott Mitchell’s win of the BDO World Championship in January created a furore in the agricultural machinery world. When asked what he planned to spend his £100,000 winnings on, Scott commented that he dreamed of buying a tractor for his dad – Hampshire-based farmer Jeff. Agri-machinery manufacturers were quickly in touch offering their services.

Two months on, Scott and his father have just taken delivery of a quality used New Holland T5060. The tractor was recommended to the Mitchells by Ben Best at New Holland’s partner agricultural dealer C&O Tractors. A small but powerful tractor, the 106hp T5060 is agile enough to be used in and around the yard, but can also be ballasted up to a maximum of 6800kg, and so is ideally suited to ploughing or heavy draft work. This combination makes it a powerful workhorse, and the perfect choice for a mid-scale family farm.

Scott Mitchell comments: “I said to dad before I left for Lakeside if I win this thing we are going to get rid of all our junk tractors and buy a brand new one. We haven’t had a brand new tractor on the farm since the 1980s when my dad bought me one when I was 18.
“My dad has always been so supportive. It would have been impossible for me to have done what I’ve done without him. Winning the world championship changed my life and it’s nice that I can help him out too.”
Ben Best of C&O Tractors says: “We were delighted when Scott took up our offer of advice regarding the purchase of a tractor for his dad. We pride ourselves on our personalised service and ability to find the very best machinery for our clients. In this case, the New Holland T5060 fitted the bill perfectly. It is a powerful but versatile machine, which should meet all of the challenges that Mr Mitchell wants to throw at it.”

Speaking on behalf of New Holland, Graham Gleed, National Accounts Manager says: “We are delighted that Scott has chosen a New Holland tractor for his father. His BDO World Championship win took place just a few miles from our Basildon manufacturing plant and we have been monitoring events ever since.”

Graham concludes: “We wish Scott and his dad many happy years of productive use of their New Holland tractor.”
