New Holland Parts & Service are at Agritechnica 2023 in the name of sustainability to reduce carbon footprint in agriculture

The New Holland Parts & Service area at Agritechnica 2023 will present sustainabilityrelated initiatives gravitating around the area of services available to customers, adopting a 360-degree approach to sustainability in agriculture, thus involving not only machinery and propulsion alternatives, but also the processes related to spare parts and complete service.

REMAN
The CNH brand that specialized in remanufactured parts with the aim of giving old components a second life will bring at Agritechnica a project linked to ECU (Electronic Control Unit) on agriculture machines.

Tommaso D’Alessandro - Senior Manager for Reman in Europe, the Middle East and Africa - says: “More and more machines will be electrically powered in the future, and they will contain increasingly sophisticated electronics, as a great share of vehicle components are becoming electrical and electronic. For this reason, the European REMAN team is working with a prestigious Italian university (Politecnico di Torino) to research how they can recover more of the raw materials from electronics.”

The aim of this project is to quantitatively assess the circularity and sustainability of remanufacturing applied to electronic units installed on off-road vehicles (agricultural and construction machinery). Specifically, the study wants to assess the quantity of CO2eq emitted by the remanufacturing process carried out by CR Electronic that performs remanufacturing on the end-of-life electronic control units (called "cores") received from CNH Industrial.

From the circularity and sustainability point of views, the remanufacturing of electronic control units adopted for off-road vehicles presents a huge number of undeniable advantages:

  • More than 95% of CO2 emissions saved vs new
  • Decrease in the use of virgin raw materials, because a high percentage by mass (about 93%) of the original components is preserved;
  • Decrease in waste production, as the percentage by mass of replaced components is limited (about 7%);
  • Opportunity of job creation for highly qualified workers, because sectorspecific skills are needed to perform remanufacturing operations;
  • Reduced price (-30%) for customers, compared to the purchase of a new electronic control unit;
  • Machine downtime reduction for customers, because remanufacturing process on average lasts requires less time the production and delivery times of new components.

The results of the research will be shown with a video on a dedicated totem in the Parts&Service area.

The REMAN corner will also display two more initiatives related to sustainability and innovation. First, the prosecution of the collaboration with Treedom to help populate the CNH Industrial Forest: each tree planted will absorb the remaining share of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere and will produce oxygen, thus improving the air we all breathe. Finally, a screen-based avatar will be integrated area, to provide real-time answers to visitors asking questions about any sustainable initiative related to CNH Parts and Service.

PETRONAS
PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI) will officially launch at Agritechnica 2023 the Ambra Multi-traction Bag in Box allows to reach the important objective of fewer carbon emissions, less waste, and the use of recycled materials.

The carton pack, UN Mark Certified, complies with all transport regulations for the packaging and shipping of dangerous goods - an uncommon certification within the lubricant industry. Developed in close partnership with CNHi, the New Holland Ambra Multitraction Bag in Box reduces up to 92% of plastics, using 100% recyclable cardboard box and up to 85% less material when compared to traditional plastic bottles.

At Agritechnica visitors will be able to get a sneak-peak of the new product that brings the shared brand values of PLI and CNH Industrial together. Innovation, sustainability, circularity and driving efficiency are highly valued by both brands and there is a keen desire to support the agricultural sector in their efforts to improve value and provide environmentally minded solutions for agricultural machinery and fluid technology.

Antoine Rebillard, VP EMEA Parts Commercial & Operations at CNHi says: “At CNH Industrial, innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. For us, environmentally minded technology is key to creating value for our business, for our customers and more generally, for our planet. For many years at CNH Industrial Parts & Service we have been working to minimize waste, make our products and our parts distribution processes more and more sustainable, in close collaboration with our suppliers and commercial partners.”
